In wezen ben ik een colorist
Ik houd van het ambacht ‘etsen’. Kleuren zijn in mijn werk ontzettend belangrijk. Inspiratie haal ik uit muziek, landschappen, mensen (alleen en samen) en reizen (ver weg en dichtbij) . Sinds ik op Scheveningen woon, geldt dat ook voor de zee: licht, zon, horizon, ruimte, strand, branding, luchten, golven, eb en vloed.
Mijn grafisch werk bestaat vooral uit kleuretsen in combinatie met andere technieken. Ik boor vaak in de zinken plaat, druk de ets op een zeefdruk of druk meerdere zinkplaten over elkaar heen. Sinds 1990 maak ik ‘puzzeldrukken’. Door de etsplaten te verzagen, ontstaan er kleinere zinkplaten die samen de uiteindelijke afbeelding vormen. Dit is een erg arbeidsintensieve techniek.
Ik heb veel geëxposeerd in binnen- en buitenland, o.a. in het Grand Palais en het Louvre in Parijs, en werd geselecteerd voor Grafiek Biënnalles in Korea, Frankrijk, Polen en Portugal.
In essence I consider myself a colorist.
I love the skill of etching. Colours are my main focus in my art. Music, landscapes, people (alone and together) and traveling provide me with inspiration. Since I moved to Scheveningen that inspiration also comes from the sea: the light, the sun, the horizon, the space, the beach, the breaking of the waves, the skies and the eb and flow.
My graphics consist of colour etchings in combination with other techniques. I often drill holes into the zinc plate, print the etches on screens or print multiple zinc plates on top of each other. Since 1990 I make “puzzle prints”, by sawing the etching plates in pieces. This way I construct smaller plates that together form the whole image. This technique is very time consuming.
I have extensively exhibited nationally and internationally, a.o. in the Grand Palais and the Louvre, Paris and have been selected for the Graphic Arts Biennale in Korea, France, Poland and Portugal.
