TESSA MAAGDENBERG
Mijn kunst is niet-objectief en geïnspireerd door decoratieve patroonelementen. Handgesneden sjablonen van delen van patronen gevonden in oud behang, tegels of ornamenten die ik fotografeer in en op gebouwen over de hele wereld, zijn mijn hulpmiddelen om composities te vinden. Deze fascinatie voor ornamentele vormen komt van de oude rollen behang die mijn opa in huis had. Als klein meisje was ik erdoor gebiologeerd en voelde ik de textuur van deze rollen. Ik maak ook veel gebruik van mijn verzameling behangstalenboeken die ik heb gekregen. Ik schilder voornamelijk met acrylverf op houten panelen.
My art is non-objective and inspired by ornamental pattern elements. Handcut templates from parts of patterns found in old wallpaper, tiles or ornaments that I photograph in and on buildings around the world, are my tools for finding compositions. This fascination with ornamental shapes comes from the old wallpaper rolls that my grandfather had in his house. As a small girl I would be mesmerised by these and feel the texture of these rolls. I also make ample use of my collection of wallpaper sample books that have been handed down to me. I paint mainly in acrylics on wooden panels.
